Topographic Maps represent a three dimensional surface on a flat piece of paper, making use of contour lines to show the details and different elevation levels . A topographic map is reliable representation of what the land looks like. Topographic maps use large scale images, abundant detail and usually give representation of relief in a variety of ways. Topographic maps usually include both natural and man made features.

The image above maps India in a topographical nature representing the altitude change across the land by a colored scale.
